Exmouth Musical Theatre Company's captivating centenary year production, 'Hello, Dolly!' promises to be a musical delight not to be missed. Marking their one hundred years, the well known local company, formerly known as Exmouth Operatic Society, are performing the hit family musical, filled with unforgettable songs, energetic dancing and captivating (and often comical) characters.
This multi-faceted and often farcical love story, told against the backdrop of turn of the century New York will have you smiling, melancholy, optimistic and yearning to sing along to such favourites as 'Elegance', 'It takes a Woman', 'Ribbons Down My Back' and 'Before the Parade'.
'Hello, Dolly!' tells the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi (played by Lorna Bryant), a matchmaking widow. Dolly tries to find a wife for the famous but grumpy half-a-millionaire, Horace Vandergelder (Mark Smith), whilst struggling to let love back into her own life. Through a confusion of events, Harace's employees, the well meaning but down-trodden and nervous Cornelius Hackl (Lance Vernon) and Barnaby Tucker (Ben Martin) embark on an adventure that will see their paths collide with the enigmatic Dolly, and eventually find love themselves in the form of the staff in Dolly's favourite milliners, Irene Malloy (Debbie Butler) and Minnie Fay (Kate Lees). Eventually, though not without complication, all find the happiness they deserve.
Since its first Broadway outing, Hello, Dolly! has received acclaim from The Tony Awards, The Grammys, and The Academy Awards. Come and see it given the EMCo treatment this summer, as director Clare Philbrock and musical director Adele Needham bring their own interpretation to this well-known and enduring treat of lies, loyalty, laughter and love.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that Craig has been unwell today,we have had to take the decision to cancel the cheese & wine section of tomorrow nights get together. The Quiz will still go ahead starting at 8.15pm as previously arranged but as the idea was to fundraise, the cost will revert to £2.50 per person/£10 per team,as it has been in previous quizzes. (I understand there will be prizes!).
From a health and safety point of view we dont feel comfortable with Craig presenting food as it seems he has had some sort of virus which we would hate to be passed on to others. If he is not well enough to come to host the quiz Allen will take over.
We will do our best to re-schedule the cheese & wine tasting for another evening in the near future.
Apologies for the change of plans but please come along to the Quiz and have a great evening.
Regards
Debbie
Ammendment to:
As part of the continuing Centenary celebrations for EMCo there will be a social/fundraising event this coming Saturday 13th March in the form of an informal "Local Cheese & Wine" tasting session/presentation, by our very own Craig Butler, followed by a Centenary Quiz.
This is taking place at the Manor Hotel from 7.30pm. It will be £5 for the Cheese & Wine tasting and then a further £1 per person to enter the Quiz.
It should be a really enjoyable evening and it would be great to see as many of you there as possible along with family members and friends.

Debbie

Having previously been a member of EMCo, Adele was thrilled to be invited to be the MD for the centenary production, and commented, "I also welcome the opportunity to work once again on another production with my dear friends Clare and Rachel." The team have previously worked together with Centre Stage on their productions of Oliver.
Before Hello, Dolly!, Adele has been involved with EMCo on productions of Oliver, Bitter Sweet, My Fair Lady and Half A Sixpence. She also had lead roles in several productions as Jill Kemp in Mr Cinders, Dorothy Brock in Forty Second Street and Hope Harcourt in Anything Goes.
Adele has been in various shows with Exeter Amateur Operatic Society including Showboat, Hello Dello, Perchance to Dream and Carousel. She has also played with them, the roles of Maggie Jones in Forty Second Street, Ann in Half A Sixpence and more recently Calamity in Calamity Jane. Adele has also played Letitia in The Zoo and Tessa in The Gondoliers with St David’s Players.
As MD, Adele has musically directed Calamity Jane with Crediton Operatic Society, The Wizard of Oz, The Mikado and Oliver with Centre Stage and The Scarlet Pimpernel with Exeter Amateur Operatic Society now known as Exeter Musical Company.
Outside of amateur musicals Adele loves to keep in shape. She said "I love exercise and keeping fit. I enjoy fitness classes like bodypump and spinning. I have also recently started to learn golf and now understand why people describe it as a frustrating game!"
EMCo are very proud to welcome her back as MD for the Centenary Year Production of Hello. Dolly! at Exmouth Pavilion June 1st to 5th 2010. Tickets are available through the box office logo below.

One of the most difficuilt things the production team had to do or this show was choosing the programme. The sixties gave us such as wealth of popular music, where do you start? Despite the lack of any Cliff Richards songs (He was my favourite, so I can't forgive them!) the programme was very well balanced and was greatly enjoyed by the cast and the audience, many of whom expressed their enjoyment by joining in the songs, clapping and dancing.
The concert had a mixture of solos, duets, group and chorus singing, with the chorus providing some excellent harmony numbers. The beach Boys medley was a highlight as were many of the solos, particularly in the second act. The show moved along at a good pace and the music was well balanced sp we heard every word. The stage was attractively dressed with some appropriate and well chosen film projected at the back, (including a picture of Cliff, so partially forgiven) The narration had been well thought out. It was ammusing and interesting, filling the audience in with the news of the time and delivered very professionally by the two DJs, Hugh Chudley and Craig Butler. The concert ended with the company singing The Rhythm of Life from 'Sweet Charity'. This had been superbly choreographed and was a fitting end to a most enjoyable evening.

Recent review of our 2009 Summer production at the Pavilion, Exmouth:
CHESS – EMCo – Pavilion - May
Dir : David Youll
MD : Lynne Caygill
I found this production to be one of the best I have seen by this company. It is a difficult choice of production, being essentially an opera, with some very difficult music. Its years since I last saw it, and I had forgotten, though, just how good the music is. David had cut the show considerably, which led to a very fast moving piece which was just over 2 hours long. The downside to that was that some elements of the story were given only a passing “nod” and it was difficult to keep up with what was going on. That’s just a minor point though because the quality of the performances and direction was superb. The 6 main principals ( Florence, Freddie, Anatoly, Svetlana, Molokov and Arbiter) gave stunning vocal performances that far exceeded anything else I have seen at Exmouth. The staging was adventurous, using a massive LED screen at the rear of the stage. This was very effective .. when it worked. There were some slight problems on the last night. The orchestra, as is to be expected with Aunty Lynne in the driving seat, gave a really good sound and supported the vocals without drowning them. Surely the best show in East Devon this season ?
